Not too long ago, that was me.
Before Melanie’s Moon Beans was the shop you see today, it was a wish born out of my own journey into motherhood. When I was preparing for my son, Brett, to arrive in early 2025, I found myself completely overwhelmed. My background in biology and quality control made me look at baby products a little differently—I wanted to know exactly what was going into the products my baby would touch, chew on, and sleep with every day.
I felt a fierce need to protect my child. Suddenly, the materials in a cloth book, the softness of a blanket, and the safety of a bathtub mattered intensely.
But my search for “the best” led me to a few frustrations that perhaps you’ve felt too:
The Overwhelming Noise: There are thousands of products out there, but which ones actually help with development? Which ones are truly durable?
The Aesthetic Gap: I wanted items that were playful and joyful, like our “Cheerful Sunlight” tapestries, but also functional enough to handle the “real life” messes of parenting.
The Quality Worry: I wanted to trust that a toy wasn’t just fun, but was a “tiny treasure” built to last.
Melanie’s Moon Beans was born out of that desire for curation. I thought, What if there was a place where a mom had already done the scrolling and the safety checks for you? I wanted to build a shop that focused on the essentials that make the biggest difference in those early years—from the “big adventures” of travel to the quiet moments of bath time.
